Sloppy Jonahs

In a large deep skillet over medium heat brown:
  • 2 1/2 lbs ground beef

Remove beef to bowl and set aside.

Add to the pan and saute about 5 minutes, until soft:
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup each: finely diced carrots, celery, onion

Add and stir 30 seconds, until fragrant:
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

 Add meat back to the pan. Add:
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Stir well and simmer 15 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns.


Hot Dog Surprise

You don't sneak up on a dachshund, or throw a dog a surprise party, you shock your dinnermates with this unexciting looking dish that's really tasty. 😋


  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 8 hot dogs (Trader Joes brand), split down middle lengthwise
  • 1 red/yellow/orange pepper, chopped into 1 inch pieces
  • 8 oz. baby bella or white mushrooms, chopped into 1 inch pieces
  • Cooked rice

  • In a large skillet heat 1 tablespoon canola oil.
  • Saute dogs 3-5 minutes on open side, 1-2 minutes on flipside, until meat is browned in spots. Set aside meat in a bowl to cool for a minute or two. Slice into 1-2 inch pieces. Cover w/foil.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon canola oil in the skillet and heat until hot. Add vegetables and a few pinches of salt and stir well. Cover pot and turn to low, but keep it simmering. Stir every 1-2 minutes until mushrooms have released their juices.
  • Add cut hot dogs with any accumulated juices and heat through.
  • Serve with rice.


Three Cocktails

I like cocktails a lot, as you may have heard (margaritas, sangria). Here are a few more for summer.


Shake with ice and serve in a chilled martini glass:
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz Grand Marnier (or triple sec)
  • 3/4 oz cranberry juice
  • 1/4 to 1/2 oz fresh lime juice

Lemon Drop

Shake with ice and serve in a chilled martini glass:
  • 2 oz  Tequila 
  • 1/2 oz pomegranate flavored tequila
  • 1/4 oz Grand Marnier (or triple sec)
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice 
  • 1 tsp. of agave nectar

Pomegranate Punch

In a rocks glass combine:
  • 2.5 oz tequila 
  • 1/2 oz pomegranate juice
  • 1/4 oz fresh lemon juice

Add ice then top with:
  • a splash of sparkling wine
